Losing our loved ones is a painful process. Over time, we reestablish our routines and our lives in this new way, however still missing the presence of those that were always there before. I have found comfort and choose to honor those I have loved and lost in ways that keep them with me. I think about them all the time and can imagine the words they would say to me in different circumstances. I like to keep up certain traditions that either we did together or ones that they started that I’ve now taken on. I also like to honor them and celebrate them on their birthdays. Yesterday, July 15th, would’ve been my grandma’s 104th birthday. While I haven’t been able to celebrate WITH her since her last birthday in 2006, I’ve been celebrating her in my own way ever since. My grandma always rocked a perfect white manicure and pedicure. She was beautiful, inside and out, stylish and chic and she was one of my favorite people to spend time with. We always had the best time together, no matter what we were doing and always shared how grateful we were for our special relationship. Most of our nights together included deep, wonderful conversations over delicious bowls of ice cream. We were kindred spirits and I know so much of her is still in me. I can see parts of her in me everyday. Every year on her birthday, I too will rock a white mani pedi in her honor and it was so fitting this year that National Ice Cream Day happened to fall on her birthday as well. In honor of my sweet grandma, I was happy to celebrate her in all ways ❤ Think about the ways in which you can continue to honor and feel connected to those you have loved and lost ❤
