They say this is what you have to do. They say this is the way to do it. They say this is the best way. They say you shouldn’t do this or that and you should do this, that and the other. They say this, they say that. They say, they say. Who the fuck are THEY? We’re living in a world of gurus and healers. Everyone has something to say, a new angle on how to get happy, get rich, get fit, get successful. Everywhere you turn there’s another coach, a life coach, a wellness coach, a spiritual coach, a healing coach or any kind of a fill in the blank coach. Everyone thinks they have the answers to your inner happiness and healing. Everyone seems to have the best plan or program for you to sign up for and change your life. While I love the concept of wellness at it’s core, it’s unfortunately been diluted and distorted by so many who claim to be wellness leaders leading wellness programs that are built upon the business of making money off others’ naïveté and desire for a better life. There are so many modalities and endless tools out there that are awesome and helpful and healing. However, there is no ONE solution for anything. There is no ONE way to do something. There is no ONE tool that will fix everything. It’s about collecting tools and techniques and finding what works best for YOU. Just as we are all unique individuals, every treatment plan and life course is also individual. What works great for someone else doesn’t mean it’s what will work for you. Be willing to accept that it’s a journey to figure out what works for you and be willing to do the work. Stop looking for the quick fix, the easy road, the cure all pill or program. It’s bullshit to think it’s that simple. You will waste a ton of time, energy and money and may even feel manipulated, disappointed and regretful later after having spent so much of yourself invested in that one thing only to find it didn’t work. Wellness is a lifestyle. Happiness is a lifestyle. Invest yourself in having the lifestyle that feels good for you. It’s a lifestyle you want and it takes a village to maintain it. Gather the tools, learn the techniques, meet with the teachers and therapists that speak to your soul and are aligned with your goals. Just as you’re ever changing and evolving, so will the tools and techniques that you need. It’s a lifetime process of willingness to be open to what works for you. You don’t need a guru, you need to learn to trust yourself and listen to your heart. The answers are there. The teachers are out there to help you learn, but first learn to be your own guru as YOU know YOU best.
